My experience
I have 13 years’ experience as a fundraiser and bid writer, of which 10 have been in the voluntary sector for well-known charities including Tommy’s (medical research) and St Mungo’s (homelessness).
Under my leadership, the St Mungo’s trusts team income exceeded £1 million for the first time, and more recently my work at Tommy’s has enabled the trusts and major gifts team to enjoy major growth.
I have significant experience in managing and developing relationships with trusts and foundations. I have worked with “big names” including Garfield Weston Foundation, City Bridge Trust and The Wellcome Trust, as well as a host of small and medium-sized foundations.
I am an Associate of the charity and fundraising consultancy 3rd Sector Mission Control, and I am part of the Philanthropy Company network.
I deliver regular Trusts & Foundations training with Get Grants.
I am a Member of the Institute of Fundraising and my entry in the Consultants’ Directory can be viewed here. I also served on the IoF’s Expert Advisory Panel for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion during 2018 and 2019.
I run my own fundraising blog, The Sceptical Fundraiser, and have written several times for Third Sector.
I have a degree from Cambridge University in Anglo-Saxon, Norse & Celtic.
My approach
I am a strong believer in taking a relationship-focused approach to trusts and foundations fundraising, as this is the best way to grow and sustain income.
I am confident in taking complex and technical information (e.g. scientific research projects) and translating it into straightforward, funder-friendly language.
I am passionate about diversity and ethical leadership.
